Franklin County Employees Raise $1,950 in No Shave November

Seven Franklin County employees participated in a No Shave November contest to support WellSpan Health’s Summit Health Foundation Oncology Bridge Fund, which assists individuals facing financial hardship during cancer treatment. Combined with the county’s monthly “dress down” fundraiser, employees raised $1,950 for the nonprofit.

John Thierwechter of the Commissioners’ Office won the “Fresh Face Challenge,” which required contestants to begin clean-shaven and grow facial hair throughout the month. Charles Martin of Human Resources raised the highest amount among participants.

In the “Mane Masters” category — for those growing existing facial hair — Terry Bookhamer of Adult Probation was named the winner. Other contestants included Matt Foschia of Children & Youth Services, Joel Burkholder of Information Technology Services, Ben Sites of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and Jason Miller of the Franklin County Department of Emergency Services.

On Wednesday, the Franklin County Commissioners and Human Resources Coordinator Keri Kenney presented the donation to Summit Health Foundation Director Kara Ferraro and WellSpan Cancer Center Director Shendelle Clapper. Thierwechter and Miller also took part in the check presentation.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
