Franklin County is marking the 242nd anniversary of its establishment.
Pennsylvania lawmakers created Franklin County on Sept. 9, 1784, and named it after Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
Residents supported forming the county to avoid lengthy trips to Carlisle for court proceedings and other county business. The Pennsylvania General Assembly approved the change and designated “Chamber’s Town” as the county seat.
