Franklin County Recognizes National Correctional Officers and Employees Week

The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed May 3-9, 2026, as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week in Franklin County.

The proclamation recognizes the correctional officers and jail employees whose work helps keep Franklin County communities and citizens safe.

Franklin County’s correctional system is designed to protect the public by separating those who have committed offenses from the community, deterring offenses, and rehabilitating individuals for reentry into the community after release.

Correctional officers and jail employees work in demanding conditions that require constant vigilance and strict security protocols. Franklin County Jail staff are responsible for helping maintain the safety and security of both the public and individuals housed at the facility.

“Corrections isn’t your typical 9-to-5 job — it runs around the clock, every day of the year, and it takes people who are dedicated, adaptable, patient and professional,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “Our community truly owes a debt of gratitude to the men and women who provide this essential service for our residents and for those moving through the criminal justice system.”

“Corrections Week honors the professionals who ensure safety and order every day,” said Franklin County Warden Heather Franzoni. “At the Franklin County Jail, our team leads with discipline, supports one another, and remains committed to the mission—no matter the challenges. Our staff wear their badge with pride, honor and integrity.”

The commissioners are encouraging residents to show respect and gratitude to correctional officers and jail employees for their role in keeping Franklin County communities safe.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
