“Early Bird Shoppers”
Several hundreds of shoppers line up in the parking lot before 8 a.m. to enter the new Cressler’s Marketplace before grand opening ceremonies in Shippensburg Tuesday.
The store, on U.S 11 replaces the old one downtown.
50 Years Ago
November 20, 1971 – Saturday
“St Nick To Arrive Here By Railroad”
Chambersburg – The “North Pole Special” of Western Maryland Railroad will be the conveyance for Santa Claus, to arrive at the Liberty Street crossing at Southgate Mall shopping center at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27.
Members of the Merchants’ Association will greet the visitor, who will then be taken by fire truck through the shopping center and downtown business area.
Returning to the Southgate Theatre, Santa will be host to children at a cartoons and film Christmas party, sponsored by the association.
100 Years Ago
November 20, 1921 – Sunday
“Farmers to Dine and Plan Picnic”
Chambersburg – A speaker of note will be present at the meeting at 7:30 p m. on November 29 in the Chambersburg Trust Building of the 140 stockholders of the Franklin County Farmers and & Breeders association. A banquet will precede the business meeting.
Reports of chairmen committees of the exhibition will be presented. As this is, the annual meeting, the financial statement will be read. Officers elected for the ensuing year, and the date and number of days of next year’s exhibition determined. The financial condition of the association is better than it has been for several years. Postcards will be sent to all members urging them to be present at the banquet and meeting and bring new stockholders along.
