Gallery 50 hosts opening reception for new art exhibition on January 31

Gallery 50 hosts an opening reception for a new art exhibition, “People and Places” on Friday, January 31 from 5:30–8 p.m. at 50 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro. The evening will showcase the new artwork and include free refreshments in addition to live retro blues and country music from BBD Trio in the adjacent Music Makers space.

The 10 featured area artists are Jeff Barnhart, Sandra Barton, Charlotte Borum, Laurie McKelvie, Rebecca Pollard Myers, Heidi O’Toole, Glen Sabetto, Paula Saneaux, Nicole Troup, and Matthew Walls.

“We are pleased to welcome two artists who are new to the gallery, as well as eight more artists whose works have been admired in past exhibitions,” Gallery 50 curator Marti Yeager said. “This show includes many compelling paintings that feature ‘people’—both figuratively and in portraiture. The other half of the show spotlights beautiful and stirring works representing various ‘places’—both real and imaginary. We invite everyone to Gallery 50 to see this impressive exhibition!”

The gallery will also have new fine art and crafts by local artists available on the shelves: pottery, wood carvings, jewelry, stained glass art, and more.

Following the reception, the exhibit will be on display through April 26, 2025. Gallery 50 is open Fridays from 5–8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The exhibit will soon be available to browse and purchase on the gallery’s online shop at www.gallery50-aagw.square.site

Additional free events have been announced in connection to some of the show’s award-winning artists, with both events taking place at Gallery 50: a portrait drawing demonstration with Nicole Troup on Saturday, February 1 from 1–3 p.m., and an informal artist’s talk with Paula Saneaux on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. For more details, go to the Gallery 50 Facebook page or visit www.artsalliancegw.org

Gallery 50 is owned and operated by the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro and spotlights fine art and high-quality crafts from local artists and artisans.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
