Gary Lee Helfrick, 55, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD, after an extended illness.

Born December 7, 1966, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Lester L. Helfrick and Naomi E. (Shaffer) Helfrick, of Greencastle.
He graduated with the class of 1985 from Greencastle High School.
Gary had worked at Ventura Foods, Chambersburg, PA, for 16 years, until he had to retire for health reasons in 2015. He had also worked for the Greencastle School District as a security guard for several years, where he loved interacting with the kids.
He was a member of Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle, and a former member of Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. #1.
Gary had always been outgoing, and while he didn’t play sports, he had always enjoyed watching sports. He also liked to play the piano and organ. Most of all, Gary enjoyed people and being able to help people however he could. He was very family oriented, and his big heart and ready sense of humor will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.
In addition to his beloved mother, he is survived by his son, Gary Michael Helfrick of Chambersburg, PA, his brother, Jeffery L. Helfrick, of Waynesboro, four sisters: Beverly A. Helfrick, of Greencastle, Kathy E. (Helfrick) Barnhart, and her husband, Duane, of Greencastle, Rebecca J. (Helfrick) Zimmerman, and her husband, Gail, of Mercersburg, and Patty M. (Helfrick) Summers, of Mercersburg; many nieces and nephews, and his very dear friends, care givers and neighbors, Bobbie Jo Guyer and Danielle Perez, both of Greencastle.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ronald E. Helfrick.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle, with Pastor Brian Black officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
