Chambersburg borough: Gas department gets excellence award
Chambersburg‘s Gas Department received an award from the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia this month. MGAG presented the 2020 Marketing Excellence Award to the borough on May 6 for highest customer growth during 2020.
Despite the uncertainties of 2020, Chambersburg was able to add 122 new gas customers, an increase of 2% from 2019. The Borough currently has 6,352 gas customers.
Increasing the customer base helps more residents improve their finances and household safety through the use of clean, safe, and affordable natural gas, according to Assistant Borough Manager Phil Wolgemuth. It also helps keep rates stable for existing customers.
Chambersburg residents pay the lowest price for gas in Pennsylvania, Wolgemuth said. The borough-owned utility has not raised gas rates in 12 years.
The Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia (the Gas Authority) is the largest non-profit natural gas joint-action agency in the United States. It serves 80 members in Georgia, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Florida, meeting the needs of more than 250,000 customers.
