Gettysburg, Adams County continue tourism momentum

Gettysburg and Adams County continued to build on a strong year for tourism in August, posting increases across all major lodging performance indicators and marking eight consecutive months of growth in occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPAR).

According to the latest lodging data provided by Smith Travel Research, August 2026 saw year-over-year gains in occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), and RevPAR, reflecting sustained demand from visitors. Compared to August 2025, occupancy increased 1.4 percent, ADR grew 2.2 percent, and RevPAR increased 3.6 percent.

The positive performance continues a trend that has defined 2026. Year to date through August, occupancy is up 3.8 percent, ADR has risen 3.4 percent, and RevPAR has grown 7.4 percent.

“The consistent growth we’re seeing is the result of collaboration among our tourism partners, local businesses, attractions, and community stakeholders,” Destination Gettysburg President and CEO Karl Pietrzak said. “Our goal is to create meaningful reasons for people to visit throughout the year, and we believe the America 250 commemoration has provided a robust calendar of events and experiences to enjoy.”

Lodging success was greatest during the summer months. June (73.8 percent) and July (73.9 percent) recorded the highest occupancy levels since October 2019 (74.2 percent).

Pietrzak is optimistic that the momentum will continue through the fall season, which traditionally ranks among the busiest times of year for Gettysburg and Adams County. Fall foliage, outdoor recreation, harvest experiences, and seasonal events are expected to continue attracting overnight visitors.

“Entering the fall season with this kind of momentum is encouraging,” Pietrzak said. “Fall has always been a signature season for Gettysburg and Adams County, and we look forward to welcoming visitors who want to experience the history, scenery, events, and hospitality that make this destination special year-round.”
