Gettysburg to Host Annual Fall Bicycle Weekend

The historic town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, will once again serve as the backdrop for the annual Gettysburg Fall Bicycle Weekend, set to take place from October 25 to 27. The event will be headquartered at the Aspire Hotel/Eisenhower Conference Center on Emmitsburg Road, just south of the town center.

This year, the event organizers are excited to announce a partnership with the National 9/11 Memorial Trail Alliance. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to linking the three primary 9/11 memorial sites across the United States through a continuous trail. For more details about their mission, visit 911trail.org.

Approximately 200 participants are expected to join the weekend from across the Mid-Atlantic, many of whom will be visiting Gettysburg for the first time. To ensure their safety and success, the event is currently recruiting local volunteers to act as SAG (Support, Assistance, Gear) drivers. SAG drivers play a critical role in providing aid to riders who may require assistance during their journey. Volunteers will need a vehicle equipped with a bike rack or sufficient space to transport a bike.

While SAG drivers are not required to remain onsite at the hotel throughout the weekend, they must be available by phone during the event dates to assist any riders in need within Adams County or western York County, near Hanover.

In appreciation of their contributions, SAG drivers will be invited to join all event festivities, including buffet dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings. Additionally, volunteers will be reimbursed for gasoline expenses, and a significant donation will be made to a charity of their choice in recognition of their service.

For more information about the event or to volunteer as a SAG driver, please visit the official website at www.gettysburgfallbikeweekend.com or follow the event on Instagram @gettysburgfallbikeweekend.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
