Glenn Robert (Bob) Ogle, a man whose extraordinary life was defined by duty, honor, and an unwavering commitment to his community and country, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, at the age of 96.
Born on January 5, 1930, in Greencastle, PA to parents Glenn Martin Ogle and Margaret Ethel (Fisher) Ogle, Bob grew up spending most of his time playing baseball. His exceptional talent on the baseball diamond caught the eyes of Major League scouts. And, at the age of 17, he achieved his boyhood dream of signing with and playing baseball within the New York Yankees organization. Bob spent four years, from 1947-1951, playing baseball in Newark, Ohio, Easton, MD, Sunbury, MD and Joplin, Missouri.
He was in Joplin when his country called. Bob traded in his baseball uniform for Army fatigues. Drafted from January 1952 – January 1954, into the Korean War, he served directly on the front lines. He became a member of the 23rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (Tomahawks) operating under the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division, which underwent one of the most brutal and continuous combat deployments of the entire Korean War. This unit served until the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. Luckily Bob returned home a true patriot, having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, and was awarded numerous service medals, including 2 bronze stars.
Upon his return to civilian life, Bob joined the law enforcement ranks, embarking on a distinguished 30-year career with the Waynesboro Police Department, retiring as a Corporal.
Beyond his professional life, Bob was a lifelong member of the Acacia Lodge Number 586 of Free and Accepted Mason, Waynesboro, PA. He was also a member of the Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg, PA and the Waynesboro Fish & Game Club. Bob immensely enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life. He also enjoyed camping and watching baseball, especially his beloved New York Yankees.
Bob married Betty Ann Recard on July 22, 1950, and they were together for 65 years until her death in July 2015.
Bob was also preceded in death by his oldest son Robert Martin (Marty) Ogle, and his two sisters Helen Jean Ogle Raker and E. Madlyn Ogle Chamberlain.
His legacy of love and integrity lives on through his surviving children; Patricia Ann Addleman (Robert) of Chambersburg, PA, Cathy Jo Hammond (Lawrence) of Hagerstown, MD, and Michael Eric Ogle (Suzanne) of Fayetteville, GA.
He was the cherished grandfather of Allison Ogle Hammond (fiancé Leroy Ambash), Harrison Robert Hammond (Victoria), Hilary Ann Addleman Sites (Benjamin), Stephanie Lynn Addleman Truesdell (Stephen), Matthew Robert Ogle (Andrea), and Eric Reese Ogle; and the proud great-grandfather of Kensi Ann Sites, Jase Daniel Sites, Mila June Hammond, Jolene Rose Hammond, Sadie May Hammond, Robert Michael Truesdell and Logan Reed Truesdell.
He is also survived by sister-in-law Hilda Bowders, nephew Alan Bowders, Dennis Bowders and Thomas Raker. Also surviving are nieces Cindy Chamberlin and Sandy Borzager.
Bob has played his final inning, walked his last beat, and completed his earthly labor. His legacy remains an indelible blueprint of a life well-lived.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to the extraordinary, compassionate medical and nursing staffs at Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital, Menno Haven Rehabilitation Center, Providence Place Senior Living Center, and Journey Hospice Central Pennsylvania.
