Harold E. Duffey

He was born September 4, 1946, in Waynesboro, PA, the son of the late Harold R. and Virginia L. (Bitner) Duffey.

A 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, Harold began his career as an apprentice at Landis Tool Company. He went on to spend 31 years as a lab machinist at Mack Trucks (now Volvo) before retiring.

Harold was known for his selflessness and his readiness to put others first, and he gave much of his life to serving his community.

He was a life member of Rescue Hose Company No. 1 of Greencastle, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. He was also a member of Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443 F&AM and a former Greencastle Borough Councilman.

In his spare time, Harold enjoyed woodworking and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He also loved to travel, with memorable trips to the Caribbean, Alaska, a riverboat cruise through Europe, and a cruise of the Mediterranean. Most of all, he treasured time with his family, including his beloved nieces and nephews and his grand-puppies, especially Mia, who held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by Marlene Mae (Barnhart) Duffey, his wife of 61 years, whom he married on July 4, 1965; his son, Harold E. “Gene” Duffey II, of Greencastle; his sister, Nancy Brunner, of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, PA.
