PennDOT District 8: Highway line painting to start

Road work in Shippensburg

A highway line painting project begins Sunday night on Interstate 81 in Franklin County, and Interstate 83 in York County. This work is part of a line painting contract covering interstates and other high-volume roadways in the south central PennDOT region.

It will take about a week to complete the two highway line painting projects. Once finished with the Franklin and York projects, the contractor moves to other Interstates in PennDOT’s District 8. That work should take two-to-three weeks to complete, after which line painting will be moved to non-interstate routes.

Interstate work takes place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning, with the exception of a section of I-83 from Exit 8 (Route 216/Glen Rock) to the Maryland border. Work there takes place between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Short-term lane closures will take place during these mobile operations.

Work on non-interstates will be outside the peak hours of 6 and 9 a.m. and 3 and 6 p.m.
