House Fire Reported on Roxbury Road in Lurgan Township

Photos and information obtained from Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Company

A house fire was reported at approximately 10 a.m. on February 6, at 11164 Roxbury Road in Lurgan Township, Franklin County.

According to Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Company, firefighters were dispatched along with mutual aid departments after receiving reports of fire coming from the rear of the structure near the roof eaves. The first arriving engine found heavy fire conditions at the rear of the home on both the first and second floors, with fire extension into the attic.

Crews conducted an aggressive interior attack and achieved a quick knockdown of the main body of the fire. Firefighters then performed extensive overhaul operations, opening walls and attic areas to extinguish remaining hotspots. Units operated on scene for approximately two and a half hours before clearing.

Fire crews reported no issues with water supply, utilizing two hydrants located on opposite sides of the property.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. The American Red Cross was requested to assist one adult resident.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a propane heater placed too close to combustible materials. Fire officials noted that portable heating units should have a clearance of at least three feet from combustible items.
