Inmate Dies Following Assault at Camp Hill State Prison

A 35-year-old inmate, Spencer Kassel, died on Wednesday following an attack by another inmate in the recreation yard at the state prison in Camp Hill, state officials reported.

Kassel, who began serving a one-to-two-year sentence for aggravated assault on December 9 in Centre County, was pronounced dead at 8:51 a.m. after the assault, according to a Department of Corrections (DOC) press release.

The assailant, identified as 29-year-old Hezekiah Campbell, was apprehended by DOC staff immediately following the incident. Campbell allegedly stabbed and assaulted Kassel, authorities said. No charges have been filed against Campbell as of Wednesday evening, but the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) are investigating the death.

The Cumberland County Coroner’s office will determine Kassel’s cause and manner of death. The DOC confirmed that Kassel’s next of kin have been notified.
