Interstate 81 Welcome Center to Reopen After Upgrades

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the northbound Interstate 81 Welcome Center in Franklin County will reopen at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 7. The facility had been closed since Monday for the installation of a new energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. This installation is part of a Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project, a collaboration initiated by PennDOT and the Department of General Services in 2021, aimed at upgrading HVAC and lighting systems to enhance energy efficiency and reduce utility costs.

Motorists seeking information on major road conditions can visit This service offers traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed data, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras. It is available 24/7 and can be accessed via a smartphone app for both iPhone and Android, by dialing 5-1-1, or by following local alerts on platform X.
