Iris “Jean” Taylor

Born on March 29, 1940, in Berkeley Springs, WV, she was the daughter of Bernard and Olive Ambrose.

Jean is survived by her six children: James Shanholtz (Veronica), Lori Sanders (Jimmy), Timothy Shanholtz, Cynthia Kimmel (Dennis), Jerrin Shanholtz (Jody), and Andrew Shanholtz (Tyann). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Jean was preceded in death by two of her children, Anthony and Robin Shanholtz, and one granddaughter, Christina Shanholtz.

Jean held a variety of jobs throughout her adult life, where she made many lifelong friends. She loved turtles, red wine, and “watching the neighborhood.” She enjoyed cooking and was especially known for making chocolate fudge to share with friends and family during the holidays.

Above all, Jean’s true loves were her pets. A lifelong animal lover, she found companionship and joy in her dogs and cats. Among those mourning her loss is her beloved cat, Heidi.

In her final days, Jean was surrounded by her siblings, children, and grandchildren; sharing her humor, opinions, and stories from a colorful life well lived.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

A woman of strong will and sharp wit, Jean was known for her large family, her stubbornness, and her deep love for animals. Her family trusts that she is now in God’s care, at peace, and perhaps still keeping everyone on their toes in heaven.
