James Buchanan Senior Receives $5,000 CleanChoice Energy Scholarship

James Buchanan High School graduating senior Brody Crone received a $5,000 CleanChoice Energy Future Flywheel Scholarship.

The scholarship program was established by CleanChoice Energy, which owns and operates a solar farm in Franklin County. The company interconnected its first Franklin County solar farm in December 2024.

CleanChoice Energy established the scholarship to support future renewable energy and environmental science leaders. For the first four years of the solar project’s operation, the company will award a scholarship to a graduating senior from the local school district to support college or vocational education.

Crone plans to attend the University of Maryland and study biology in the Honors College.

“The environment is essential, as it is the basis of all life on Earth,” Crone said. “Protecting the environment is vital because we all need it to survive, and fostering a healthy biosphere will benefit everyone.”

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
