Joe Newton Taylor

He was born in Mercersburg, PA to Charles C. Taylor and Corrinne A. Kaiser Taylor.

Joe Taylor was fiercely passionate about making a better life for his family. Participating in an apprentice program while working full-time at the Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro, Joe later became a draftsman at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD where he earned a patent for a channel cooled piston for heavy duty engines. Joe ended his career as a manufacturing representative with the A. G. Byrnes Company where he traveled the country and shared his expertise.

Joe was a jack of all trades and also a master of many. His precise metal and woodworking abilities were coveted by his family, friends and acquaintances.

In 1954, Joe married Nancy L. Auman Taylor and went on to have three children. Joe was a dedicated father, grandfather and husband. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed spending time with Joe, hearing his stories, participating in outdoor adventures, and learning from his shared wisdom. His guidance was the foundation of his family.

Joe loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and particularly fishing. Special places to visit included Chincoteague, VA and the Florida Keys where Joe most enjoyed fishing from his boat for hours on end. Extended fishing trips with his son, sons-in-law, grandsons and friends were another favorite.

Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Debra (Greg) Hess of Greencastle, Joe, Jr. (Susan) Taylor of Shippensburg and Elizabeth Keller of Greencastle; grandchildren, Jessica Samperi of Standish, ME, Tonia (Derek) Kling of Chambersburg, Kari Zeger of Alexandria, VA, Katie (David) Maher of Carlisle, Amanda Cortes of Pittsburgh, Amy (Mark) Messick of Greencastle, Corey Starliper of Mercersburg, Justin (Denae) Keller of Greencastle, Zachary Keller (Amanda) of Chambersburg and Taylor Hess of Woodward, PA and 14 great-grandchildren.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg.

In respect of Joe’s wishes, no viewing and funeral services will be held.
