Mr. John J “Jack” Cashmere, 84, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.

Born September 28, 1937 in Natalie, PA, son of the late George and Anna (Dancho) Cashmere, he graduated from Mount Carmel High School, Mount Carmel, PA, with the Class of 1955.

He served ten years with the United States Air Force and was stationed in Hawaii for four years.

He married M. Denise (King) Cashmere, April 3, 1982, in Forestville, MD.

John was employed as a System Analyst for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, DC, until he retired in 1993.

He was an active member in St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Greencastle, where he served as an extraordinary minister and at one time was on the Parish Council.

John volunteered as a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts while his son was in Scouts and took on the role of treasurer for the Boy Scouts.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He made a point to keep in touch with family and friends…to bring a smile to their day…whether it be with visits or calls. Family meant everything to John. He had nicknames for his nieces and nephews which often ended with “Poo-Poo Kowski”! John made friends easily and enjoyed meeting new people while playing a round of golf or while he was bowling with his Tuesday league at Nellie Fox Bowling Alley.

In addition to his beloved wife, Denise, he is survived by his children: Pamela Ann Cashmere-Petit and her husband, Ted, of Florida; John Joseph “Jack” Cashmere Jr. and his partner, John, of Arkansas; Denise Danielle Falkenthal of California; Kelli Ann Cashmere-Weber and her husband, Bill, of Pennsylvania; and Brett Stephen Cashmere and his wife, Kaitlyn, of Pennsylvania; his six grandchildren: Lauren, Owen, Aidan, Evan, Ryan and Rachel; his three great-grandchildren: Dominic, Anastasia, and Theodore; and his two sisters: Anna Mariano of Pennsylvania and Veronica Hamlin of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a great-grandson, Nicholas; an infant sister, Francis Cashmere; a brother, George Cashmere; and a sister, Dorothy Kautter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, in St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 395 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle, PA, celebrated by Fr. Walter Guzmán and Deacon Dan Signore.

Burial at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Elysburg, PA will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 395 S Ridge Ave, Greencastle, PA 17225.
