John William “Bill” Binkley 1936~2022


John William “Bill” Binkley, 85, of Waynesboro, PA passed away on Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, at his home.

Born June 20, 1936 in Chambersburg, PA he was the son of the late John I. and Ruth (Wagaman) Binkley. His early life was spent in the Greencastle, PA area. When he was 12 years old the family moved to Waynesboro.

Bill graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School in 1954. Following graduation, he completed his apprenticeship at the former Landis Tool Company. He was employed as a draftsman at Landis Tool Company, Mack Trucks and retired in 1998 from Waynesboro Design Services, Inc. of Waynesboro.

From October 1959 until February 1962, he was a member of the United States Army.

He and his wife of over 63 years, Myrna (Fry) Binkey, were married on July 12, 1958 in the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.

An avid sports fan, his favorites were the New York Yankees, Cleveland Browns, Notre Dame football, “The King” Richard Petty and Tom Watson. His other passions were golf and traveling far and wide to follow the hockey careers of his two grandsons.

He was a member of American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro, Eagles Club, Inc., and Moose Lodge #1191, Waynesboro. Bill was also a life member of Preserving our Heritage Archives and Museum, South Mountain, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steven Good of Waynesboro; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sharon Binkley of Ohio; two grandsons and wives, Christopher and Jessica Binkley of Ohio and Jason and Danielle Binkley of North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Marie Binkley of Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Debbie and John Boyle of Maryland, Linda and Daniel Dingle of PA and Audrey and Donald Coffett of PA; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Fry and Brian Fry of PA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane (Binkey) and Herbert Carson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Lee Daywalt officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday evening, in the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank all of the Grane Hospice staff, especially Tylina, Carrie and Julie for the compassionate care and concern given to Bill and the family.
