Gabriella Johnson added a new honor to her impressive list of accomplishments Wednesday. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association added the Shippensburg University senior to its 2019-20 All-America team.
Johnson, Shippensburg University‘s 2019-20 Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year, was on her way to a probable state championship last month when the 2020 NCAA Championships were canceled on its second day.
“Despite the cancellation of the NCAA Championships, Coach Verge did a remarkable job this season,” Greg Earhart, Executive Director of the CSCAA, said. “Gabbie had the rug pulled out from her this season. So we are excited to recognize her as one of the nation’s best.”
Johnson earned two All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) classifications this season. They were based on a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2020 PSAC Championships. She was Shippensburg’s highest point scorer at the PSAC Championships. She totaled 80 points toward SU’s score, a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and contributions to four relays.
Johnson is in her final semester of classes this spring and maintains a 3.49 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). She is a marketing major and coaching minor,.
In February, Johnson received the women’s Presidential Medal Scholarship awarded by Shippensburg University President Laurie Carter.
