Shippensburg University’s Josh Herbster (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Last weekend, at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Lynchburg, Herbster enhanced his personal best in the hammer, finishing second with an impressive throw of 196 feet, 11 inches (60.02 meters).
Herbster’s performance well surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. The throw currently leads the PSAC and ranks fifth in the nation.
Also at Lynchburg, Herbster threw the discus 145 feet, 6 inches (44.35m), a performance which ranks fifth in the PSAC, and had a top shot put of 47 feet, 2 ¼ inches.
It is the first weekly award of the outdoor track & field season for the Raiders. It is the first PSAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award earned by a Raider since Shamar Jenkins was honored one year ago. It is the second career outdoor weekly award for Herbster; he was previously recognized April 13, 2021.
