Joyce Anne Maylone obituary


Joyce Anne Maylone, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center in Lumberton, NC surrounded by her family. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Gregory Steven Maylone, who passed away August 17, 2017.

Joyce was born in St. Pauls, NC and graduated from St. Pauls High School, Pembroke State University (now UNC-Pembroke) and received an accounting degree from the college located in Frederick, MD. She went on to have a distinguished career with Civil Service for 36 years as an accountant. She and her husband both served their country with honor at several military bases in the U.S. and abroad. They were fortunate to travel throughout Europe during their deployments. After retirement, they enjoyed a wonderful life in Waynesboro, PA.

She later became a resident of Wesley Pines Retirement Center and often spoke of the friends she had made and her appreciation for her caregivers. Her family is thankful for the compassionate care and treatment she received by the staff of Wesley Pines and Southeastern Hospice. No matter her condition, day or night, she would always thank her caregivers and wish for them a wonderful day.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, James & Gladys Peterson; her sister, Betty Edge; and nephews, Kenny and Steve Boomer.

She is survived by her sister, Libby Welsh and husband Luckey; two nephews, James and Douglas Welsh; and two nieces, Marcia Livingston and Nicki Phillips.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton, NC during a private family service.
