Juniata College’s field hockey team was defeated by Chambersburg’s Wilson College Wednesday in a non-conference match-up in Huntingdon. The Phoenix (7-0, 1-0 CSAC) flew past the Eagles (1-6, 0-0 Landmark) with a final score of 2-1.
How It Happened
Wilson and Juniata battled hard in the first half, keeping the score even at zero despite multiple attempts by each side. The Phoenix were the first to break the scoring standoff with a goal in the first minute of the third period off of a shot from senior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona). The Eagles were quick to respond with a goal of their own coming just two minutes later, tying the game at one apiece.
The stalemate continued into the fourth period when at the last moment a goal came for the Phoenix. Singer scored the game-winning goal with just under a minute left in play continuing the Phoenix’s undefeated record.
Inside the Box Score
Singer led the team in both goals and shots on goal, earning 2 goals and 5 shot attempts. Fifth-year goalkeeper Krista Nayadley (Hampton, VA, Hampton), held the Eagles to only one goal and had five saves to assist in the teams’ victory.
Field Hockey’s next game is away at Roanoke in Salem, VA at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
