Karen Pearce 1952-2025

Karen Pearce of Bonneauville, Pennsylvania died on Wednesday, March 26 in Camp Hill following a brief illness.

Karen Pearce
Karen Pearce

Born in Baltimore in 1952, Karen graduated from Andover High School and attended college at Lenoir-Rhyne and York College of Pennsylvania. She married in 1972 and moved to Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, where she raised three children. Karen fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher in 1986 and taught English at Carroll County Public Schools for more than twenty years.

An avid naturalist, Karen loved identifying birds and finding wildflowers on her walks at parks around the region. She instilled in her students and family a love for literature, a love for wild places, and a love for the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary. She had great love for her family and especially doted on her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children: William Pearce of Mt Laurel, New Jersey; Emily Kissner of Biglerville, Pennsylvania, and Sarah Pearce of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Ria Kissner, Aidan Kissner, Caleb Pearce, Noah Pearce, Liam Hopper, and Samuel Pearce.

At Karen’s request, there will be no public services. Instead, remember her by visiting the woods and experiencing what she loved so much.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the National Audubon Society.

The Monahan Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements and online condolences may be made at the funeral home’s website.
