Kathryn “Kate” M Defenderfer, age 89, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Providence Place in Chambersburg.

She was born November 20, 1933 in Chambersburg, PA as the daughter of the late Luther J. and Ruth (Miller) Stinson.

Kathryn retired from Venice Inn Restaurant in Hagerstown, MD after working there as a banquet waitress for over 30 years. Prior to that, she sewed at the Stanley Company for over 11 years. 

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg; New Life Sunday School Class and Women’s Missionary Society.

In her spare time, Kathryn enjoyed walking, riding a bike and antique cars.

She is survived by her daughter, Brigid R. Martin and her husband, Ed of Mercersburg; son, Gregory W. Defenderfer and his wife, Debra of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Jeremy and his wife, Elizabeth Martin, Josh and his wife, Leah Martin, Andrew Defenderfer and his wife, Rachel and Tyler Defenderfer; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie Miller of Chambersburg and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, George W. Defenderfer, who passed May of 2022; three sisters, Jean Myers, Arlene Hawbaker and Mary Alice Poe and three brothers, Eldon Stinson, Dale Stinson and Edward Stinson.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at King Street United Brethren Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201, with Pastor Ronald Cook officiating.

A Public Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of services.

A Procession will follow the service to Parklawns Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum in Chambersburg.
