Keystone Health observed Agricultural Worker Health Day as part of National Health Center Week by recognizing the organization’s origins and ongoing commitment to serving farmworkers.
Keystone Health was founded in 1986 by current President and CEO Joanne Cochran to address the healthcare needs of agricultural workers in the region. What began as a volunteer effort operating from the basement of Cochran’s home has grown into the largest multi-specialty Federally Qualified Health Center in the United States. In its first year, the organization provided care to approximately 500 farmworkers with the help of three volunteers.
Today, Keystone employs more than 600 people and provides healthcare services to patients from all backgrounds, regardless of their ability to pay. While its services now cover a broad community population, the organization continues to serve agricultural workers in counties throughout Pennsylvania.
In honor of Agricultural Worker Health Day, Keystone employees donated items such as sunscreen and hats to support local farmworkers.
