SHIP U.: Lacrosse drops road match at East Stroudsburg

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team came up short at No. 4 East Stroudsburg on Saturday, losing 20-7 to the Warriors in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match on a sunny but windy afternoon at Whitenight Field.

What happened

Shippensburg (2-8, 0-5 PSAC East) scored the opening goal, but East Stroudsburg (9-0, 5-0) countered with eight consecutive goals. The Warriors led 14-4 at halftime.

Senior Hannah Seifried (Springfield, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr) recorded four goals and an assist. Three other Raiders – senior Gabby Savarino (Hauppage, N.Y./Hauppage), senior Kasey Schuchardt (Westminster, Md./Westminster), and freshman Jamie Carvin (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) each found the back of the net once. Senior Jena MacDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) recorded one assist.

Freshman Francesca Picone (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Savarino both had three groundballs each, while MacDonald was credited with two groundballs. Savarino and junior Julianna Capozzolli (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) both had a team-high three caused turnovers, while Picone and Seifried each had two.

Freshman Kayla Vosburg (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Preparatory) made five saves, while senior KiKi Brasher (North Wales, Pa./Abington) had two saves.

The Warriors had a 18-13 draw control advantage. Savarino had a season-high of six draw controls, while Seifired had five.
