Lawmakers Oppose Proposed Closure of Penn State Mont Alto

State Rep. Chad Reichard and Rob Kauffman have issued a joint statement criticizing Penn State University’s plan to close its Mont Alto campus, calling the decision rushed and lacking transparency.

The lawmakers claim the closure process did not adequately consider how the decision, made in State College, would affect residents and students in Franklin County. They emphasized that the Mont Alto campus plays a vital role in providing education and local employment opportunities, particularly for high school students preparing for higher education.

With a vote by the university’s board of trustees still pending, both legislators pledged to continue efforts to oppose the closure and urged the board to reject the proposal. They are calling for a comprehensive study to assess the broader community impact of Mont Alto and other branch campuses.
