Local man charged with assaulting newborn son
A Chambersburg man faces aggravated assault charges as the result of an attack on his newborn infant last Sunday.
Chambersburg police were called to a home on Sheller Avenue at 5:13 p.m. Sunday on a report of an active domestic disturbance. On arrival, they were told Michael Woods, 28, had lifted his newborn infant about three feet off of a bed and then dropped the infant onto the bed.
Woods then began to force a bottle into the infant’s mouth, causing the baby to choke, according to the police report.
Woods is charged with the following crimes:
- Aggravated Assault – Victim Less Than 6 and Defendant 18 or older (2nd degree felony)
- Endangering Welfare of Children, Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense (1st degree felony)
- Simple Assault (2nd degree misdemeanor)
- Possession of marijuana-Small Amt Personal Use (misdemeanor)
Woods is in Franklin County Jail, unable to post $250,000 Bail set by Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns during his arraignment Monday.
His preliminary hearing is set for 8:15 a.m. July 6 in Franklin County Magisterial district Court.
