Local Organization Reaccredited with Rigorous Philanthropic Standards

TFEC and United Way to Fund Support for COVID-19 Community Needs

The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) recently received reaccreditation with The Community Foundations National Standards®, the nation’s highest standard for philanthropic excellence. National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® establish legal, ethical, effective practices for community foundations everywhere.

“Meeting the National Standards benchmarks is a rigorous, comprehensive process,” said Randy Royster, board member of the Council on Foundations. “This accreditation is a significant accomplishment that indicates The Foundation for Enhancing Communities demonstrates a commitment to transparency, quality, integrity and accountability as it carries out its mission.”

The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® program requires community foundations to document their policies for donor services, investments, grantmaking, and administration. The program is designed to provide quality assurance to donors, as well as to their legal and financial advisors.

Paramount to TFEC’s mission is the practice of handling donated assets and the creation of permanent funds, investment, and grantmaking for the benefit of local nonprofits and the furtherment of its goals within the community it serves.

“When people come to TFEC with their philanthropic interests, they put their trust in us. They count on us to manage their investment wisely and honor their charitable wishes. The National Standards accreditation says we go above and beyond the requirements to demonstrate accountability and excellence. We are very proud of this reaccreditation,” said Black.

In addition to affirming the organization’s philanthropic services, the reaccreditation validates TFEC’s grantmaking practices for the nonprofit community.

The Community Foundations National Standards Board is a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations and is responsible for the quality, value and integrity of compliance with National Standards. Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
