Local student-athletes from Wilson College and Shippensburg University received special recognition this week from CSAC and NFHCA.

Wilson teammates recognized

Wilson College softball teammates Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) and Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) were selected as the CSAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the conference office. 

Potter recorded her 500th career strikeout during a 14-strikeout, one-hit performance in a 7-0 shutout victory over Saint Elizabeth University. Barker had eight RBI in the series against Saint Elizabeth, including seven in game 2. She had two home runs in that game, including a grand slam as the Phoenix won 16-0. 

Wilson field hockey gets national academic award

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has recently announced their 2020 Division III National Academic Team Award and has named the Wilson College field hockey team as one of the recipients.

This award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2020-2021 school year.

Pat Maloney named inaugural PSAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Shippensburg University’s Pat Maloney (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was named the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

Maloney unleashed a pair of personal-best throwsSaturdayat Lock Haven’s Elliston Earlybird that have him ranked atop the PSAC performance list in both events. He launched the hammer 179 feet, 8 inches (54.76 meters) and the discus 158 feet, 6 inches (48.32 meters). He also put the shot 44 feet (13.41 meters), which ranks sixth on the PSAC performance list.

For Maloney, the performances marked a PR of more than 34 feet in the hammer and more than five feet in the discus.
