Local United Ways Challenge Hunger

United Ways of Franklin and Washington Counties are partnering to fight food insecurity in the communities of Franklin County and Washington County. The United Against Hunger fund is to give greater access to free food, healthy options, food deliveries, and food resources.

From now until August 11th, both local United Ways are working together to raise $100,000 to battle food insecurity across Franklin and Washington Counties. Thanks to a matching gift, every dollar raised between them, up to $100k, will be matched, doubling the impact of each gift, and potentially providing $200,000 for the combined communities.

Hunger is a pervasive problem, with 1-in-8 families often choosing between buying groceries or lifesaving medications. With the significant increase in food prices, residents who are living in poverty or barely making ends meet, struggle now more than ever.

Board Members of both organizations have been actively calling on community to help raise support for this campaign in the hopes of creating a strong funding pool to serve the communities throughout the coming year. Ken Ditzler, Board President at United Way of Franklin County, remarked, “Local businesses and their employees aren’t confined by county and state lines, and we see the needs of people in every community we serve. This collaborative project gives us a great opportunity to make a significant impact.”

All proceeds from United Against Hunger will stay local, benefiting local food pantries, home-delivered meals, backpack programs, fresh food distributions, food delivery to those living in food deserts, and many food-related programs. The United Against Hunger challenge will run through August 11th. Donations are accepted by mail, online, or by phone. For more information, call or visit either organization:
