Lock Haven defeated Shippensburg’s Raiders Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division soccer match at David See Field. The match concluded the Raiders men’s soccer season.
The team honored five senior players in a pre-match ceremony at David See Field.
How it happened
Shippensburg (4-10-3, 2-10 PSAC East) was trailing 1-0 in the 25th minute when senior Harry Kershaw (Wardle, England/Wardle Academy) was fouled in the box. Senior Kyle Willwerth (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) converted the resulting penalty kick for his first collegiate goal.
Lock Haven (13-2-2, 10-1-1) scored in 20th minute off a tight cross from Colton Swanson, that Samuel Hershey headed into the net.
The Bald Eagles retook the lead in the 34th minute when Andrea DiSomma snuck a pass to Zane Puhala, who scored a breakaway goal. Lock Haven built on its lead in the 71st minute off a DiSomma goal set up by a Hershey pass.
It was a busy day for Hershey. He first kicked two extra points for the LHU Football team at Seth Grove Stadium earlier in the day; then he headed across campus to David See Field to play for the soccer team, netting a goal and an assist.
Lock Haven affirmed its ranking as the PSAC Eastern Division Champions with the victory.
Before the match, the Raiders recognized Cory Ferguson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area), Owen Iacobelli (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland), Kershaw, Rene Quintanilla (San Salvador, El Salvador/Chambersburg Area (Pa.) (Wilson)) and Willwerth in a pre-match ceremony in which the men were presented jerseys.
