Jacob Zeger 90 Years Old 

MERCERSBURG– Jacob Henry Zeger, R. R. 2, celebrated his 90th birthday Sunday, at a family dinr.er, given by his children in Lemasters Community Center. 

Zeger was born Oct. 14, 1879, to the late Jeremiah and Emeline Sheely Zeger, on the farm that is now owned by Franz Passarge, R. R. 2. 

He married the former Alice Rotz, who died in 1949. To that marriage were born Robert, Mrs. Louise Jones, J. Ellwood and twins, Lawrence C. and Lee (deceased). 

He has 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. 

Zeger has been a farmer all his life, and still keeps active by gardening. In his spare time he likes to watch television, especially sports. His mind is alert. 

He is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

Jacob Henry Zeger’s parents were Jeremiah and Emeline Zeger near Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.  His father was a farmer.  He married Martha Alice Rotz who died in 1949 and is buried near him in the Fairview Cemetery.  Together they had nine children.  Jacob was a farmer.  He died December 20, 1971, at age 92 and is buried at Fairview Cemetery n Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

100 Years Ago

October 16, 1919 – Thursday

“OFFICIAL RIDES WITH THIEF UNKNOWINGLY”

CHAMBERSBURG – Without knowing it, a report states, Leo H Gargan, a State Highway inspector, rode from McConnellsburg to Chambersburg with a thief who abandoned an automobile on the Biglerville road when his supply of gasoline became exhausted.
