“Western Wildfires Continue”

Wildfires are continuing in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas and Utah. Over 79,000 Acres have burned in New Mexico, 10,450 Acres in Arizona, in Colorado 14 firefighters died when trapped in a fire, 40,000 Acres burned in Texas, 30,000 Acres in California, 29,000 in Utah, and 41,000 Acres have burned in Nevada.

MOON LANDING STAMP
It was announced in the ‘Public Opinion’ that the Post Office had released this copy of a new moon landing stamp in Washington. An engraved master stamp die for the commemorative stamp will accompany the Apollo 11 astronauts on their journey to the moon. On its return to earth, the die will be used to produce the special jumbo-size, 10-cent airmail postage stamp. The stamp will be issued in Washington in August.

Thursday – July 10, 1919
SHIPPENSBURG BOY SAVED FROM DEATH
YESTERDAY, JULY 9TH, Lawrence Watson of East King street saw Edwin, 8-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kegerreis running down an alley between King and Burd streets, his clothing aflame.
Watson ran after the child and while struggling with him, the boy got away but Watson went after him again and succeeding in tearing the burning clothing from his body, but not until he was horribly burned from hips to shoulder. The child set fire to his clothes while playing with matches. His rescuer was painfully burned.
