Mrs. M. Elizabeth “Betty” Powers, 77, of Waynesboro, PA passed away, Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Menno Haven Retirement Community, Chambersburg.

Born June 11, 1943 in Gambrills, MD, she was the daughter of the late William E. Morris, Jr. and Madeline E. (Gross) Morris.

Mrs. Powers was a graduate of Bladensburg (MD) High School.

She and her husband, the late George F. “Bud” Powers, Jr., were married on September 9, 1967 in Heidelberg, Germany. Mr. Powers died on August 5, 2009.

Mrs. Powers worked as a secretary for The Department of Agriculture and The Department of the Army. She also worked for the University of Maryland, where she was a registrar. She retired in 2003.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, Officer’s Wives Club where she was past president and did volunteer work, NARFE, and the National AARP. She also sang in Catholic choirs in NJ, AZ, and Fort Ritchie, MD

Mrs. Powers enjoyed traveling around the world, including the United States, Europe and Israel. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, and especially cross-stitch. Her needlework projects were featured in nationally published books.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen E. Davis and her husband, Richard and Noelle Marie Powers, both of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Cal Davis, Brooke Davis, Nikki Davis, and Palmer Davis; one sister, Mary Ann Cranford of Port Charlotte, FL; one brother, William E. Morris, III of Edgewater, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2021, in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro with Rev. Robert Malagesi, MSSCC officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Friday morning, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA 17268 or St. Andrew Catholic School, 213 E. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
