A 20-year-old man was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police after a stabbing incident on Aug. 13 in Straban Township, Adams County.
According to charging documents, Liam Owings, of Biglerville, is accused of stabbing a 35-year-old man in the stomach during an altercation. He faces multiple assault charges.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., Adams County radio received a report of a stabbing in the 2500 block of Old Harrisburg Road. State Police were dispatched to the scene.
Police said the complainant reported that her boyfriend had been stabbed by her son, Owings. Officers found Owings in the hallway outside the bathroom and detained him. The victim was located in the master bedroom with the complainant. Police said the victim’s shirt was covered in blood and appeared to show signs of injury to the abdominal area.
The victim was transported from the scene and later flown to York Hospital for treatment.
Investigators said the complainant told them Owings had entered the bedroom aggressively but said little. The victim reportedly confronted Owings, who then appeared to punch him in the stomach before leaving the room. The victim then stated, “he stabbed me,” according to police.
While awaiting emergency responders, Owings reportedly pushed medical supplies under the bedroom door but did not speak to anyone. Police said the complainant reported Owings had shown abnormal behavior in the past year and had been on and off medication for suspected schizophrenia or paranoia.
Police obtained consent to search the residence and reported finding a blue box cutter believed to be the weapon used.
Owings requested an attorney and refused to answer questions. He was transported to Adams County Prison.
According to police, Owings has been charged with:
- Aggravated assault – attempts to cause severe bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference
- Aggravated assault – attempts to cause or causes bodily injury with a deadly weapon
- Simple assault
The investigation is ongoing.
