Pets find themselves homeless for a wide variety of reasons, in need of a new home and a second chance. So if you are looking for a new furry best friend, check out the shelter’s many residents. Any of them would make a great pet and wonderful companion.

The COVID-19 health crisis has changed the way CVAS is doing things, but the shelter’s animals have been finding homes in spite of that.

Adoptions by appointment

Adoptions now take place by appointment only, and that has worked very well. Donors have also helped with supplies and money, something very necessary to provide for the shelter’s homeless animals.

The staff’s first priority is the animals in their care. Staffers and volunteers working at the shelter have to stay healthy to care for the animals properly.

So even though Franklin County is now in the green phase of the COVID-19 mitigation, CVAS is still only allowing the public to visit the shelter by appointment.

Potential adopters can call 717-263-5791 For more information.

Chocolate is a cute guy

Chocolate was surrendered to the shelter because his owner could no longer care for him.

He’s about a year old and he’s a mixed breed – not sure exactly what is in there! He’s a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, but might need some time to adjust to living in a new home.

Chocolate likes to chase cats, so a place without felines would be best for him. He may have an energy level that’s a little too much for small children, so check with staff about a possible age restriction.

This cute guy would love to find his new spot with you!

Mayor Is a gorgeous brown tabby

Mayor came to the shelter as a stray in a trap – can you imagine?

This gorgeous, 5-year-old brown tabby was already neutered when we checked him out, but no one came for him.

Now he’s up for adoption and looking for a second chance.

Mayor loves attention, treats and a chin-scratch (not necessarily in that order).

If you’re looking for a great companion, this guy could be the one for you!
