Meritus Health Shares Safe Sleep Reminders

Meritus Health is sharing information about reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, during SIDS Awareness Month.

The health system highlighted placing babies on their backs to sleep, using a firm, flat and level sleep surface, feeding babies human milk and sharing a room with the baby.

The National Institutes of Health’s Safe to Sleep campaign recommends that babies sleep in their own crib, bassinet or other approved sleep space, separate from an adult’s bed. Pillows, blankets, toys and other soft objects should be kept out of the sleep area. These practices help reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related infant deaths. Safe to Sleep®

Parents and caregivers with concerns can schedule an in-person or virtual appointment through Meritus Health Primary Care.

Additional safe sleep information is available at safetosleep.nichd.nih.gov.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
