Meritus Team Members Give Back Through United Way Day of Caring

Dozens of team members from Meritus Health fanned out across the region Thursday as part of the United Way of Washington County’s Day of Caring.

Meritus’ participation reflects its community-obsessed philosophy. Workers gave their time and elbow grease at sites including the Salvation Army, Coffman Nursing Home and Head Start of Washington County. The staffers served food, pulled weeds and painted walls, among other tasks.

“When our team members volunteer in the community, they often find that they are the ones who benefit the most,” said Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., president and CEO of Meritus Health. “That’s why being community-obsessed is part of our organization’s culture, because it is often that in giving, we receive.”

Meritus Health is powered by nearly 5,000 people — more than 4,400 employees, 230 medical students and over 250 volunteers — to be the best community-based academic health system, working together to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve in Western Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. As an anchor organization for the community, Meritus serves more than 200,000 residents of the tristate region through Meritus Medical Center, Brook Lane Health Services, Meritus Medical Group, Meritus Home Health, Meritus Equipped for Life, and the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
