PSUAC Championships: Mont Alto second in championships
The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team placed second in league championships Tuesday, but will still go to national playoffs as fourth seed next week.
The local Lions suffered a setback in the PSUAC Championship game as they were once again defeated by the now reigning three-time PSUAC champs, Penn State DuBois. Mont Alto set the tone during the regular season, but DuBois has now won two-straight as both will enter the USCAA World Series that will take place next week.
PSUMA clawed the first run across the board on a Michael Scott (Accokeek, Md./Bishop McNamara) grounded into a fielder’s choice for his 11th RBI of the season.
Joseph Wunsch (Dover, Del. / Dover Area) made two sensational plays within the early innings to throw out two base runners. It was a back and forth affair for the first three innings with DuBois coming back for a 3-2 lead after three innings despite another RBI off the bat of Jonathan Lentvorsky (Shermans Dale, Pa. / West Perry).
The flood gates opened for DuBois who has learned to play its home field to its advantage the last few years and in the fourth and fifth they went up 13-2. That lead really let the steam out of the Mont Alto sails as they will now look forward to playing in the USCAA World Series after the 16-4 defeat.
Penn State Mont Alto (24-5, 20-5 PSUAC West) will enter the double elimination tournament as the No. 4 seed. DuBois is the two-time reigning USCAA Small College World Series Champions.
