Information obtained from FAYETTEVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT
A mountain fire in the Fayetteville area remained active early April 13 after crews were dispatched back to the scene around 3 a.m. for an orange glow visible from the top of the ridge line.
According to the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters found that about three acres had jumped the fire line and were slowly burning across the top of the ridge. Fayetteville crews worked to build containment until a Michaux State Forest fire crew arrived.
The Michaux crew is expected to continue working the fire throughout the day. Officials said residents may have seen flames before sunrise and may continue to see smoke coming off the mountain as crews remain on scene.
Firefighters said low humidity, moderate winds, steep rocky terrain and dry leaves continue to make the fire difficult to fully contain.
Officials said there are still no structures threatened by the fire. Crews are working to fully contain it as temperatures rise this week.
