Multiple calls sent first responders scrambling to locations across the county last weekend.
Malfunctioning vape causes appliance fire
Firefighters from Chambersburg Fire Dept. responded to the 200 Block of South Second Street Sunday night for a reported appliance fire with a burn patient.
Tower 1 arrived on the scene of a three-story multi-unit apartment building with normal conditions. First responders set up on Side Alpha. Engine 1-1 arrived and crews deployed a 1 3/4” cross lay to the 3rd floor while Engine 1-2 prepared for a reverse lay to establish water supply.
1 patient was located outside the residence in which Penn State Health provided care to.
Smoke condition was reduced with natural ventilation and the malfunctioning vape was removed from the residence. No fire or extension present. Crews wrapped up and then went available.
Crash with entrapment
The Franklin County dispatch Center sent first responders from Chambersburg Fire Department to the 1100 block of Lincoln Way East at the I81 interchange Saturday evening for two-vehicle crash with an entrapment.
Ambulance 1-8 arrived on scene to confirm dispatch. One of the two vehicles was overturned and a passenger was trapped in the other.
Crews were able to rapidly extricate the patient within five minutes and begin treatment. Ambulance 1-8 asked for air medical to the hospital. The patient was reportedly in critical condition at an area trauma center over the weekend.
Crews remained on the scene to handle additional hazards present before going available.
Black Gap Road crash
Squad 7 & Engine 7-1 responded to Black Gap Road in the area of the Interstate 81 overpass for an MVA. Greene 31 reported a three car accident with injuries. The Squad arrived and assisted EMS with patient packaging while the Engine handled debris and fluids.
After working 12+ hours at the Bash in the Valley fundraiser on Saturday, Franklin Fire Company first responders/members unloaded the last boxes then headed right out the door for an accident on Interstate 81. Squad 41 arrived at mile marker 13 south bound to find a single tractor trailer in the median. Crews investigated and determined there were no injuries or hazards. Fire Police from Station 4 and Company 8 remained on scene until the truck was removed.
