A series of consumer product recalls were announced April 9 involving supplements, household products, children’s items, power products, pool equipment and other consumer goods due to hazards that include poisoning, fire, burns, battery ingestion, drowning, electrocution and entrapment.
The largest recall involves about 1.7 million BISSELL Steam Shot OmniReach steam cleaners. The recalled attachments can unexpectedly detach and expel hot water or steam during use, creating a burn hazard. BISSELL said consumers should stop using the attachments and contact the company for free replacement attachments.
Vitaquest International also recalled about 356,140 bottles and packets of multiple iron-containing supplements because the packaging is not child-resistant as required under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The packaging issue creates a risk of serious injury or death if young children swallow the contents. Consumers are advised to store the products out of sight and reach of children and contact the company for a free child-resistant replacement cap or storage pouch, depending on the product.
Several recalls involve products containing button cell or coin batteries that can be easily accessed by children. About 650 Halloween pumpkin carving kits sold on Amazon by Besslly Store were recalled because the batteries in included tea lights can be accessed easily, posing an ingestion hazard. About 295 LED lights recalled by ShymeryDirect and about 2,800 LED lights sold on Amazon by Happiness Light were also recalled for the same reason and for failing to include warnings required under Reese’s Law. Ingested button cell or coin batteries can cause internal chemical burns, serious injury and death.
Shenzhen Shijingjie Network Technology recalled about 200 male-to-male extension cords sold on Walmart because exposed prongs can become energized when plugged into a generator or other power source, posing electrocution and fire hazards. The cords’ short length also encourages generator use too close to homes or enclosed spaces, increasing the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
SNOOZ recalled about 11,900 electrical fans because the internal power connector can corrode and cause the fan to overheat, posing a fire hazard. SCUBAPRO recalled about 2,800 Monorail Weight Pockets for buoyancy compensator devices because the D-ring handle can detach, preventing emergency removal of the weight pocket and increasing the risk of drowning.
ZFZG-US recalled about 19,000 Easymake adult portable bed rails because users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the rail and mattress, creating a risk of serious injury or death by asphyxiation. Silks also recalled about 7,900 children’s loungewear sets because the garments violate federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a burn hazard.
Other recalls announced April 9 include about 8,000 VEEKTOMX mini power banks due to fire and burn hazards from overheating lithium-ion batteries; about 1,365 Head USA ski boots due to deterioration of shell and sole insert materials that can cause falls; about 640 Yeeluzan pool drain covers due to entrapment and drowning hazards; about 4,300 Prestige Import Group Supernova and Typhoon lighters because they do not have required child-resistant mechanisms; about 16,400 magnetic drinkware charms sold on Amazon by Maitys due to magnet ingestion hazards; about 5,000 Wybotics robotic pool vacuums due to burn and fire hazards; and about 2,460 Members Mark 7-foot Pre-Lit Twinkling Bucks due to overheating wires that pose a burn hazard.
Consumers are being advised to stop using recalled products immediately and follow each company’s instructions for refunds, repairs, replacements or safe disposal.
