FRANKLIN COUNTY — Lock your doors turn on your outside lights and spend the evening outside with friends, family, police and emergency services personnel.
Tuesday is National Night Out and police and emergency services organizations all over the county, and beyond, will be joining citizens in their communities for fun and games.
National Night Out is an annual celebration across the country that strives to strengthen relationships between the community and public safety departments.
Franklin County Housing Authority staff volunteer their time to assist with the event in Chambersburg.
Local human service agencies provide information and activities to residents. Members of the Chambersburg Police and Fire Departments also attend bringing with them a police dog and fire apparatus.
Free food, giveaways and fun activities are all part of the event.

Chambersburg

Place: Franklin County Housing Authority, 436 West Washington Street.
Franklin County Housing Authority staff volunteers will host the event. Local human service agencies join them, providing information and activities to local residents. Members of the Chambersburg Police and Fire Departments also attend bringing with them a police dog and fire apparatus.
There will be free food, giveaways and fun activities for the community.
The purpose is To promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.
Waynesboro
The Waynesboro Police Department will host the event at Memorial Park Drive from 6-8 p.m. Aug 6.
Activities include fire apparatus display, including the life net 8-1 helicopter, games — kickball, bowling with DUI goggles, music with a DJ, appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog, display booths and games with info about drug/alcohol and crime prevention, car seat installations, kids fingerprinting, child and Senior IID kits. Hot dogs, chips, water and ice cream provided.
Scotland
Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg Barracks, will host the event at Greene Township Municipal Park. There will be vendors with food offerings. Fayetteville and Pleasant Hall Fire Companies will bring equipment and PSP troopers will be on hand.
Police expect a turnout of between 200 and300.
Washington Township
Police will host the block party-style event at Lowes Home Improvement Center from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Residents are invited to come out and meet WTPD officers, fill up on free hotdogs grilled up by Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Company 4 and try on a bomb suit from Tripwire Operations Group.
They can check out the emergency service & military vehicles, celebrate Taco Tuesday with Taco Trap House, drool over FAT Russ’ BBQ, LLC and dunk their favorite officer.

PSP Carlisle Barracks

Location: Spring Meadows Park
The Pennsylvania State Police helicopter will land at the park at 6 p.m. to kick-off the event. A PSP K-9 Trooper, Community Services Officer and other personnel will be on hand to answer questions about the State Police, our recruiting efforts, and matters related to today’s law enforcement.
Vehicles and equipment will be available for hands-on tours and demonstrations. Police will provide child seat safety checks free of charge.
The event is a partnership between Pennsylvania State Police, Troop H, Carlisle Station, and South Middleton Township for this event.
