Newburg man fatally injured in crash

A Newburg man was fatally injured in a crash on Maclays Mill Road late Thursday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Caleb J. Reamer, 19, died at York Hospital following the 6:20 p.m. crash in Southampton Township, police said.

An eastbound car driven by Raul Barbeito, 90, of Newburg, crossed the double yellow center line and hit Reamer’s westbound Kawasaki motorcycle, police said. The motorcycle went into a field following the collision. Reamer landed in a field at the side of the road.

He was flown to York by Life Net 81, where he succumbed to his injuries. At the time of the crash he was wearing a motorcycle helmet, police said.

Shippensburg’s West End Fire and Rescue Company handled the landing zone at Maclays Mill and Mongul Hill Roads. Shippensburg’s EMS and Franklin County Fire Police assisted police at the scene.

Both the car and motorcycle had disabling damage. They were towed from the scene by Abe’s Towing Service.

Shippensburg West End responded to a crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 81 in which three people were trapped in vehicles. PSP has not yet released names and details of that crash.

It happened at 5:44 a.m. in the northbound lanes at mile marker 35, according to WEFR’s Facebook page. Rescue personnel responding to the scene found three people trapped in two vehicles. Rescuers split their crews to rescue the victims from both vehicles, working alongside South Newton Township Fire Company 49 and Penn Township personnel.
