The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding drivers how to safely yield when an emergency vehicle approaches.
Drivers should scan their surroundings, locate the emergency vehicle and signal their intentions without slamming on their brakes. They should safely move out of the vehicle’s path while following their state’s laws.
Drivers who are already in an intersection when they hear a siren should continue through the intersection before safely yielding.
After stopping, drivers should wait until the emergency vehicle has completely passed before pulling back into traffic.
