Baseball pitcher Nick Zegna from Shippensburg University was named Wednesday morning to the 2022 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Baseball Second Team.
All About Zegna
It is Zegna’s fourth postseason award overall, accompanying an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Second Team classification.
Zegna set a school record this season with a league-best 102.1 innings pitched and ranked fourth in single-season school history with 103 strikeouts. He was among the PSAC’s Top 5 pitchers in both strikeouts and ERA (2.37).
A two-time PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week, Zegna threw six or more innings in 13 of his 15 starts including eight starts of seven or more innings. He allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of his 15 starts, including five starts without allowing a run. Zegna struck out six or more batters in 10-of-15 starts, including a career-high 13 strikeouts in the PSAC Tournament against Slippery Rock.
Baseball annually has three All-Region teams. This is Zegna’s third All-Region classification of the postseason, as he was previously named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Second Team and earned honorable mention from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
