Shippensburg University sports: Osanitsch is Coach of the Year

Shippensburg University’s Dave Osanitsch is the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year and the 2021 PSAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. Voting is conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Osanitsch guided the SU men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams to PSAC Championship titles in 2021. The men won by a 166.5-point margin and the women won by a 36.5-point margin.

In his 16 seasons as Shippensburg’s head coach of men’s and women’s track & field, the Raiders have won 13 of the 15 contested PSAC men’s outdoor championships; including 12-in-a-row, and 10 of the 15 contested PSAC women’s outdoor championships.

41 Coach of the Year awards

Osanitsch has won 41 PSAC Coach of the Year awards spanning indoor and outdoor track & field; more than any other coach in any sport in PSAC history. He has won 12 PSAC Men’s Outdoor Coach of the Year awards, including 11-in-a-row; and 10 PSAC Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year awards. 

The 2021 SU men’s team finished as the No. 1 team in the Atlantic Region per the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings. In addition to 273 points at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, Shippensburg had 23 All-Region performances; including the top-ranked regional performances in five events (800, 4×1 relay, 4×4 relay, discus, hammer); and an All-American 4×100-meter relay when Stephon Brown, Mo Whittle, EJ Dorwil and Eric Kirk finished seventh at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2021 SU women’s team was also the No. 1 team in the Atlantic Region per the USTFCCCA rankings. Shippensburg scored 131 points at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, and 17 of its 23 conference place-winners scored for the first time in their career. The Raiders also had 10 All-Region performances, including the top-ranked regional performances in four events: the 200, 400, 4×4 relay and the long jump.
